In its latest round of management appointments, the GAC Group says it has named industry veterans Ronnie Knowles as Managing Director of its operations in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He replaces Mark Delaney who now oversees GAC Thailand.
Ronnie is responsible for the effective and profitable management of National Shipping Gulf Agency Company (NSGAC). He brings to his new role more than 30 years of operational and management experience in the supply chain, logistics and shipping industry. He has been active in all aspects of project management, business SWOT analysis and strategic planning at a corporate level and has managed and developed multiple 3PL supply chain strategies around the globe.

Summit generates annual revenue of around AU$300 million and is said to be a top five provider of ocean freight services on one of the world’s key trade lanes – the trans-pacific route between Greater China and North America.

GAC says the strategic partnership will help the AT&T Williams team respond effectively to increasing pressure to reduce costs in the sport.

Aramex has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2009, and consolidated results for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2009.
Net profits for the fourth quarter of 2009 surged to AED 49.5 million, from AED 38.8 million, a 28 per cent growth from the corresponding period in 2008.

Global marine terminal operator DP World says it welcomed a new customer to its new Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
MISC Berhad has added two weekly calls to SPCT, with the maiden call of the 1,725 TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) vessel ‘Bunga Teratai Empat’. This brings the total carriers so far calling weekly at the SPCT facility to five. The other carriers currently calling are CMA-CGM, Gemadept, MCC and ZIM.

Robert Bosch GmbH says it has recently signed a joint venture agreement to establish Bosch Emission Systems GmbH & Co. KG, which will specialise in the area of diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems, catering to manufacturers of construction machinery and commercial vehicles.
The UAE represents a key target market of Bosch Emission Systems as statistics from the Environment Department of Dubai Municipality has shown that vehicles in the emirate collectively take 3.1 million trips a day, a figure expected to dramatically increase to 13.1 million by 2020, resulting in a further surge in the level of vehicle emissions, which already account for over 75 per cent of Dubai’s air pollutants.

MAC Holdings – a member of the EGSAC cargo GSSA network – has been appointed to represent airBaltic Cargo offline in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. This is the first time that the airline has been represented in Sri Lanka, and cargo is already beginning to flow on this new route, the company says.
The agreement followed assistance from fellow EGSAC member Air Proxy, based in the Baltic States, which introduced MAC Holdings to its national carrier.
airBaltic is the main Baltic carrier, serving over 60 destinations in Scandinavia, Russia and CIS countries, and Western Europe. It offers nonstop flights from three Baltic capital cities – Riga, Vilnius, and Tallinn. MAC Holdings is using interline agreements with Kuwait Airways and Jet Airways to connect to the airline’s Riga (Latvia) hub.

TNT Express continued its campaign to ‘Fight Hunger’ in Dubai with their bi-annual charity golf day, hosted by the Arabian Ranches Golf Club. Players made individual donations on the day for the charity, and successfully raised a total of 15,000 AED for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP is part of the United Nations system and is a voluntarily funded organisation. It is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

FedEx Express has appointed Paul Evans Vice President, Operations, Middle East, Africa and parts of the Indian sub-continent.
In this function, Evans will be responsible for increasing the pace of growing FedEx networks and service range across the region, as well as maximising the potential for increasing import and export volumes from many of its key emerging markets.
Prior to this appointment, Evans occupied the role of Vice President Integration, following FedEx acquisitions of companies in the UK, India and Hungary. Together with his integration team, he focused on revenue, cost and customer experience synergy opportunities presented by the acquisitions. In addition to his integration responsibilities, he also led the development of FedEx Supply Chain Services in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
