Aramex has announced the launch of its Green Champions programme, which provides training to staff in environmentally friendly practices at the workplace and at home. The programme, which was launched recently at the company’s Global Support Office in Amman, Jordan, will be rolled out across Aramex’s worldwide network.

Global marine terminal operator DP World has announced that its concession for the port of Maputo, Mozambique has been extended to 2033 with an option to extend for a further ten years.

Al-Futtaim Auto & Machinery Co.(FAMCO) says it has conducted the first ever ‘Linde Challenge’ at its facility at Mussafah, Abu Dhabi in association with The Logistics Academy. The event was jointly organised with operational support and coordination by professionals from The Institute of Applied Technology.
Major logistics providers sent their best operators to participate in this challenge and test their skills on equipment provided by Linde. The aim was to enable operators to gain in-depth knowledge of the products and their advantages. The big winner for the day was Shreshta from Aramex.

DHL says it saw a record number of movements of healthcare products in 2009 in Asia. Compared to 2008, shipment of finished pharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical equipment and devices and clinical trials facilitated by the DHL Life Sciences & Healthcare Global Customer Solutions grew overall by seven per cent, a steady growth despite the economic downturn.

SSI Schaefer has announced the commencement of the construction of their new Regional Headquarters in Dubai Logistics City (DLC).
Due for completion in December 2010 the new facility will provide the complete range of Schaefer’s world renowned products and services to the Middle East and African markets where Schaefer has enjoyed success since commencing operation in the UAE in 2002, according to Managing Director Geoff Wheatley. Of special significance is the further development of their automation resources in this new building to meet the increasing demand from the regional markets for more sophisticated storage and materials handling systems.

Ehrhardt + Partner Solutions (EPS), the German corporate group and international expert for warehouse logistics has announced the opening of its first Warehouse Technology Centre for the Middle East at Dubai Logistics City (DLC).
Modelled along the lines of the company’s own Institute for Applied Warehouse
(IAW) in Germany, the new technology centre will enable EPS to share its
logistics expertise and unique technological platforms with regional corporates,
including logistics service providers. EPS will provide comprehensive logistics
support services from its hub centre in DLC in addition to demonstrating the
newest warehouse technologies live at the new technology centre.

The Chairman of DP World and Dubai World has become the first person to step on land created at the UK’s newest port and logistics development, London Gateway. 
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem has inspected the first section of reclaimed land as part a visit to see DP World’s newest development get underway. The dredge and reclamation programme is a key element in the £1.5 billion project at London Gateway.
London Gateway is currently one of the largest inward investments into the UK and is the single largest jobs creation project, which will create some 36,000 jobs when complete. The project will be a major positive contribution to UK business.

Gazprom Global LNG Ltd has signed a worldwide multi-service agreement with shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC.
Gazprom Global LNG is a 100 per cent indirect subsidiary of OAO Gazprom, said to be the world’s largest natural gas company by reserves. Its activities include global trading and shipping of own and third-party LNG and business development of various LNG projects. It operates from offices in Kingston-upon-Thames, UK and Singapore.

Louis Vuitton Japan, a subsidiary of the LVMH Group, a prestigious retail company, has awarded Kuehne + Nagel Japan a contract for the management of its regional distribution centre in Osaka. Based on the systems and processes customised in this facility, Kuehne + Nagel will further be responsible for setting up showcase warehouse operations for all of Louis Vuitton’s outsourced distribution centres worldwide.

Major energy group Statoil has appointed GAC to provide hub agency services covering all ports outside of Norway effective from 2010. The contract extends GAC’s long-standing relationship with Statoil through GAC Norway since the 1980s.
