Dubai World Security has implemented an Integrated Security Solution for DP World Terminals at Jebel Ali, Dubai. The solution comprises of high resolution Surveillance Cameras, Biometric Access Control System, Identity Management and a sophisticated Command and Control Centre.
“The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code came into effect on 1 July 2004, which plays an important role in the total package of maritime security measures,” says Mahmood Amin, CEO of Dubai World Security. “DP World is the first marine terminal operator to achieve ISO28000 certification for its security management standards. A range of security measures and strict management and reviews are required in ports to comply with the standards. With our experience in the maritime security industry, we have implemented a customised and comprehensive solution delivering a convergence of operational security measures with security systems. The focal point of the project is the Command & Control Centre (CCC), which is the nerve centre for centralized monitoring, decision making, command, and control.”
“The project has been of high importance since conceptualisation,” adds Essa Eid Bin Turkeya, Director of Security (Ports & Free Zone). “We have implemented ISPS for the ports and have been maintaining it for 5 years now. Our team also manages the requirements to maintain ISO28001 certifications. At every step in the project, from design to implementation to handover to operations, we have ensured that the security solution is compliant and integrates with our security procedures and policies.”
“For DP World, the aim had also been to obtain tangible benefits from the investment, facilitating other operational business processes, which we have ensured that the solutions architecture will achieve. The solution is IP that allows the system to be flexible and scalable to meet the regulatory guidelines and future business requirements. The Integrated Security Systems comprises of sub-systems such as: video surveillance, access control, identity management, security network, and CCC. Our approach to the project has been based on the Consult, Design, Build, Operate and Maintain model,” concludes Ameen Abdul Khader, Security Systems Manager.
