Driving for Volvo

Volvo Middle East has awarded TNT Express in the United Arab Emirates a two year contract to provide express road and air distribution across the Middle East. TNT who has been responsible for providing Volvo express based services in the region for the last three years saw the extension of the existing scope to include all road and air shipments to all destinations from the purpose built distribution centre in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

“The two year deal with room to extend for a further third year, underlines TNT’s commitment to Volvo in the region,” says TNT’s National Major Account Manager James Edgeworth. “Our road and air solution gives Volvo access to the fastest transit time available across the Middle East.”

The company says its road network is the largest of its kind with transit times that are unrivalled, with particular emphasis on automotive, industrial and retail business. The network links all GCC countries in under three days door to door.

“TNT was awarded all lanes by road and air as a result of a competitive bidding process involving some 10 potential suppliers,” says Rachid Kehel of Volvo Parts’ central purchasing team based in Lyon, France. “It was clear that TNT stood ahead of the pack from a value and lead time standpoint.”

The contract will see TNT carry some 6,000 Volvo shipments per year, accounting for all Volvo parts outbound business by air and road.
