While working for the Dubai-based company, HEB International Logistics, Sarang Mohammed Naeem, 39, a project manager, and his colleague KB Gurung, were kidnapped by militants in Afghanistan’s Herat province on April 21. They were both recently released unharmed.
Mr. Naeem said he and Mr Gurung, had not been treated badly but found the conditions of their captivity difficult, including having to sleep on the floor and survive on only Afghan bread and tea.
Upon release, Mr. Naeem said they had walked eight hours to reach a police camp in Adraskan district, where they had been based before they were abducted. He said he did not know who the kidnappers were or what their motive was.
“They are a bit tired and weak. However, they have no injuries or signs of torture,” said Sunil Shetty, HEB’s director for Afghanistan.
The men had undergone medical check-ups after arriving back at base and preparations were being made to fly them home, said Sayed Ibrar Hashimi, head of security at the camp.
